Hey guys! I've had a few requests for this tutorial for a while now but I wanted to get better before offering up my technique that was shown to me by
but then I tweaked some of it to make it my own as well. So credit goes to her as well as stock providers:
for the gorgeous horse stock, thank you so much!! and
for the horn stock there in the end, appreciated so much, you guys have amazing stock!!
I want to clear a few things up about this tutorial that I may have forgotten to mention in the tutorial itself. I add flyaway hairs BEFORE step three, you can use a bigger brush to fill in your mane shape when you have drawn it out. I'd vary it from 10px down to 4px for when you get closer to the edges. If you tried coloring in this mane with only a 4px brush, it'll definitely take you forever. This mane alone took me 2 hours just today! the forelock took me 3 hours yesterday (10/04/13). Another thing I'd like to add is that I do use a tablet, but this isn't impossible without one. Just change your brush settings to fade, play with the length, same goes for transfer. I also use cs6, but again, this could be used in other programs.
I hope you guys enjoy, I had fun doing this. Again, don't be afraid to ask! If you want more tutorials like this but of tail, color changes, markings, lighting, or anything really, then just feel free to ask me! send me a note or comment here!!
Also, commissions are open!! I'm also offering private lessons for USD, send me a message if you are interested! Commission information can be found here: whisperingblues.deviantart.com…
